Herbert Johnson
Herbert Johnson (first tenor) is a Washington, DC native. He was raised on the smoking tunes of jazz and R&B greats and has a sound that is clearly influenced by the likes of Sam Cooke, Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye and Howard Hewitt. Herbert brings all of these styles
to bear in a flashing and eloquent manner, giving all honor to God.
Timothy Campbell
Timothy Campbell (baritone & vocal percussion) hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Like his uncle Tommy Campbell, a masterful drummer of the Classic R&B and Jazz Era, Tim possesses strong percussive and rhythmic ability that lends itself to the group's "outside the box" sound, allowing the ViBE to take flight on some of their more eclectic pieces. With influences of Bobby McFerrin, Baroque, Classical, and other more abstract art forms, Tim uses his gifts to advance the gospel of God.
Terence Hope
Terence Hope (2nd tenor/baritone pivot) from the eloquently known
"Boogie Down Bronx", is a native of New York City. Nephew to the jazz greats Elmo Hope and Bertha Hope, Terence is a child of the Motown and classic R&B era. Terence was strongly influenced by the pop sounds of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder and has a vocal style that is often reminiscent of a Smokey Robinson. He brings a fresh and clear technique to the writing style of the ViBE that has become a hallmark of The ViBE sound. With an incredible zeal for God, Terence brought his life work and love of music to serve and give all glory to God.
Nels Olson
(Bass) Raised by a mother and father who sung together in a Barbershop quartet, Nels grew up in a family where music was a daily part of life. Having studied piano for three years and played tuba in many ensembles through high school and college, Nels spent his college years touring with The Phi Mu Alpaha Sinfonia Music Fraternity , (a fraternal a cappella group) and discovered a passion for a cappella music. The epitome of The ViBE bass sound, Nels fills the ViBE bottom with a solid foundation. His outgoing personality brings a glory to God and an uplifting lightness (in a bass kind of way) that gives The ViBE a distinction like no other.
